Absentee Owner Surcharge

Our customer service is driven by excellent processes and, critically, our capacity to efficiently implement legislative change for Victoria.

In 2015-16, the Absentee Owner Surcharge (AOS) was introduced for foreign owners of property.

Our administration of this surcharge incorporated a rapid implementation program (to be ready for rollout by 1 January 2016) and a strong focus on tailoring efficiencies to our diverse and global taxpayer base. Part of this strategy included developing an online portal as a crucial element of the surcharge’s ongoing administration, given the widespread locations of our customers.

With the delivery of this key piece of legislative reform now in place, we can endeavour to ensure that foreign owners meet their AOS obligations into the future.
